Even if he was not the Messiah, I would believe in Jesus for the love and compassion and humility that he taught, and the example that he led. I would still try my best to follow that example.
tec, wanting to follow the example of a man as described above shows that you are a kind and decent person. I can't see many people having a problem with that.
This topic that you have started is an attempt to make the Hebrew desert god of the bible appear to be as kind and as friendly as you perceive Jesus to be.
Unfortunately you are on a hiding to nothing with that one. If I were you I would stick to plan 'A' as highlighted above.

I never mentioned this when I was with the JW's, but I've always felt His Presence.
Snowbird, Given your opinion of men, it seems unlikely that any good can come from a male influence, visible or invisible. This of course rules out Jesus and all the spirits mentioned in the bible.
Perhaps as the voice is likely to be your own, you should say that you have always felt her presence?

tec - thank you for your reply but statements like these do not inspire confidence in your belief system:
I also agree that the words of Jesus and the words of Jehovah are the same, but Jesus is the Word of God... so if something is in conflict with what he said, then I think it was misunderstood.
I do not claim to be 'an atheist.' I just think that if there is god he would have come up with more sensible book than the bible. As a gladiator I have over 300 Greek & Roman gods. Whether I 'believe' in them in another matter.
God as explained in various guises in the bible is only one of many, many attempts to understand the meaning of our existence. A Christian is someone who claims to have arrived at an answer they are sure enough of to put faith in their conclusion. I have not arrived at such a place.
I do not wear a lable that says atheist because that would say I have arrived. I have no need to wear a lable unless I arrive at a conclusion and wish to publicly declare a faith in something that I believe. Only then can I nail my colours to the mask, or in your case cross.

tec - you seem to be using the new testament to discredit the old.
Millions of people suffered under an unworkable law covenant provided by your god - Why didn't Jesus come 4000 years earlier and provide the new testament first?
If the Israelites were too hard hearted then, how has human nature changed?
Why should you put your faith in the words of Jesus and reject the words of Jehovah when Christians claim they are one and the same.
To admit that the whole bible is a disjointed collection of rumour, guesswork and make-believe from men struggling to make sense of their existence and failing, would be a giant step forward for you.

What religion would you recommend for those who want to leave the WTS?
by RULES & REGULATIONS inafter i decide to leave the jehovah's witnesses one day,i will not look for a new religion.
the damage that the wts has caused me leads me to mistrust all men and religion.. i trusted these men from the wts .
i gave up 35 years of my life to find out that the wts is just a printing and real estate corporation disguised as a religion.

It all depends on why they want to leave. Some want to be in control of their own lives instead of being a Watch-a-tower lineman. Others want something to cling to that appears to be more cuddly than a Watchtower. Some want a more mystical experience that they can interpret any way they want to.
It all comes down to one thing ultimately. You either believe in invisible beings that are guiding humans or you don't.
I just have no time for the deluded - I am a slave to Cesar. Hail Cesar!
